An 8-Week Journey into the Old Ways of Ancient Europe, Ancestral Plant Medicine, Witches, Folklore & Land Ritual
Wyrd is the old Anglo-Saxon word for fate or destiny. It’s the interconnected web of all beings, and its threads represent how we influence one another at a cosmic level. To walk the Wyrd Way is to re-engage in relationship with this web of life and one’s place and role within it. Women who carried the gift of Wyrd were known as Weirding Women, readers of the threads of her own becoming.

Journey with the old ways of Europe through the wisdom of the winter lands. Across eight weeks, we enter the darker half of the year as a threshold, a time for listening, remembering, dreaming and renewal.
Drawing from Freya’s Scottish and Slavic ancestral roots. This journey weaves folklore, native plants of old Europe, seasonal traditions, myth, history, folk medicine, and the wild figures who have carried their wisdom through generations, we journey alongside Freyja, the Cailleach and Baba Yaga, meeting the medicine of winter through story, plant lore, ritual and relationship with the land.

Samhain + Waking the Witch
Crossing the threshold into the darker months with our opening ceremony on the final Celtic harvest festival of Samhain. Waking The Witch, feasting the ancestors, reclaiming and honouring the witch, alchemising ancestral wounding and persecution of our wise women ancestors, awakening the medicine woman within. Samhain ancestor honouring rituals and grief ceremony for those who have transitioned to the other world. Creating a relationship with place, season and the unseen. Meeting The Rowan tree’s protective medicine through craft.

Pine: Tree of Winter + Birch Tree of Renewal
A journey into the folklore, medicine and spirit of the evergreen Pine + Birch Tree. Pine has long been associated with endurance, protection, purification, vitality and the promise of life through winter. a powerful teacher for the darker months. Pine in Scottish, Celtic and wider European folklore. Evergreen traditions, winter fires and bringing the green into the home Traditional folk medicinal uses of pine needles, resin, bark and cones. Pine as a plant of protection, cleansing and threshold work. Crafting a Pine pitch salve together. Meeting Birch Tree, a ancient tree of Renewal, fertility, purification, connecting to Birch in ritual and craft.

The Cailleach + Mugwort
Meeting the ancient winter hag and ancestral grandmother of Gaelic tradition, guardian of the wild landscape, mountains, storms and winter. Exploring the wisdom of age, endings, sovereignty and the fierce feminine through mythopoetic storytelling, craft and land rituals. Meeting Mugwort as our Dreamweaver and ancestral plant guide. Crafting a dream elixir and dream weaver pillow.

The Ancestral Hearth & the Scottish Tradition of Saining
Exploring household magic, folk medicine, practicing the art of Saining (celtic ancestral smoke cleansing) as protection, seasonal customs and the sacred hearth. Proto Celtic song circle, learning chants to sing to the hearth. Reconnecting with the everyday wisdom of those who lived closely with land, weather, animals and season. Meeting Juniper. A plant of the wild edges, a teacher of boundaries, protection and purification, asking us what we need to release as we enter the darker season, and what we choose to carry with us. Crafting our own native herb bundles for smoke magic.

Baba Yaga + Slavic Forest
Entering the Slavic forests of old and meeting Baba Yaga as threshold keeper, death mother, wild woman and initiator. Exploring folklore, liminal spaces and the wisdom found beyond the edges of the familiar. Meeting the Elder tree, associated with spirits, protection, and the boundary between domestic space and the wild, the elder mother folklore & winter immunity tonic herbal medicine making.

The true origins of Christmas lore, Amanita Muscaria & The Reindeer Mothers.
Antlered goddess, Reindeer Priestess, the spirit of winter solstice. Winter Solstice is the time of the Antlered Goddesses, the Deer Mothers, She is known by many names across many northern regions. The Deer Mother guides us through the nights of Solstice, carrying the light in her horns. She is the source of life, the keeper of the pathways, holder of the magic of the amanita mushroom. Meeting Amanita Muscaria’s magic, mystery, myth and medicine. We journey with Amanita in the ancient tradition of the winter solstice.

Freyja, Völva, Seiðr, Seeress.
Journeying with the Norse Goddess of love, sex, death, war and fertility - Freyja and the traditions of the völva and the Norns. . Exploring magic, prophecy, sovereignty, desire, death, eros and rebirth and the reclamation of the wise woman, oracle within. understanding seiðr, a form of Norse magic/divination. opening the oracular body. Meeting Yew Tree, threshold walker of life and death, connecting to Yew’s medicine in ritual and craft.

Winter Solstice Ceremony, The Celtic Omen Days & The Cauldron of Renewal.
Bringing the journey home, slowly closing our container with a winter solstice ceremony and Dreamtime journey. A week of integration. Winter as compost, cauldron and womb. Creating a personal winter ritual together and honouring the ancestors, guides, plants and places that have accompanied us along this journey. Introduction to The Celtic Omen days practice as a ritual integration journey of our time together and the reflection outward to seeking oracle in the land, animals and omens for the year ahead.

Wyrd is a word of times gone by,
Wyrd is an Old English Anglo Saxon word, the Germanic being “Wurðiz,” in essence both meaning coming to pass, or to become. In Anglo Saxon, as well as the Norse and Germanic Mythology of being known as one’s fate, or destiny.
In Norse folklore this fate or destiny being determined by the Norns, (pronounced as “norms,” or Old Norse “Nornir”). Very powerful, cunning wise women, entities who’s magickal abilities where far more powerful than the gods themselves. For even the gods were subjected to the cosmic fates of these Wyrd Sisters. Urd or Old Norse Urðr, meaning the past, Verdandi or Verðandi, “what is,” and Skuld, “what shall come to be.” These powerful creatures residing in the tree of Yggdrasil, a magickal tree within the core of the cosmos.
There are those who choose to work with these Wyrd Sisters, they themselves becoming…the weavers of fate. The Seiðr, a form of old Norse sorcery and magick that aids the person in foreseeing, oracular gnosis and a way to symbolically weave the upcoming events of their lives. With their distaff in hand, weaving themselves into an ecstatic trance to the other-worlds.

A guide for women remembering the old ways of the Primordial Feminine.
Freya walks the threshold where wild earth, ancestral memory, and the feminine mysteries meet. Rooted in the ancestral traditions of her Scottish and Slavic bloodlines, she tends the relationship between women, land, womb and mystery.
Through animistic ritual, folk herbalism, feminine ceremony, and Celtic earth wisdom, she calls women back into kinship with the living world ~ A return to instinct. To reverence. Re~weaving relationship to the land + body. To remember the language of the plants, the pulse of the seasons, the knowing held in the bones, and the untamed intelligence of the feminine body. Her work is a devotion to the reclamation of what was never truly lost: the wild, instinctive, ancestral woman who walks in rhythm with the Earth.
Freya was born in highland Perthshire near Loch Tay, a land steeped in folklore, faeries, Pictish history, magic and neolithic sacred sites. She grew up alongside Europes thought to be oldest Yew Tree (5,000 years old), shrine tender of Europes oldest shrine to the mother goddess, An Cailleach. Born from polish, Scots and Scots traveling folks (tinkers), Cornish and Viking ancestry. Raised with a deep reverence to the natural world, folklore, land traditions, Scottish history, herbalism and faerie lore.
